Bruce "Bud" Rappe passed away Saturday, Nov 18th, 2006 after a battle with cancer.
![]() Bud was a frequent contributor to the spdrs.org web site and as you all know a talented writer. His stories were written with a reflective element towards the humanitarian side of policing not easily shown by most men. He joined SPD in 1965 and was an excellent street cop, who in his many years as the Old Orchard 3-11 beat car, had a nose for making frequent and high profile arrests. His contribution to the success of this website will be missed.
Our sympathy and condolences to his family.
Funeral Service Was Tuesday, November 21st, 2006
In Lieu of flowers donations to Misericordia Home requested.

A couple of weeks ago, I had a short day at work
and was done in the basement at the computer when the doorbell rang. Imagine my surprise
when I opened the door and saw Ernie Cleburne standing there with Paul Kruzynski. I must say, Ernie looks fantastic for being 79 years young. He is now living in Arkansas. His new address is on the address list.
During his visit he stopped by to see Chief Halas.

Kitchen Guard Honored
|
||||
On October 26th, the Fire Dep't. held their annual retirement reunion in Sun City West, Ariz. There were about 30 in attendance including wives and friends. As a special guest, Mike Manahan was invited in recognition for his diligence in his performance as a kitchen guard at the firehouse.
It seems that a certain police officer, who is still on the job, would pilfer the refrigerators when the fire dep't was dispatched to a call.
Because of his perseverance, our fine fire dep't was able to have sufficient food on hand to keep up their strength and handle future calls.

Mike Manahan and his girlfriend Lesley are wintering in Arizona. Mike and Lesley worked for Denny Degelmann at Niles North H.S. Lesley did registrations while Mike handled residence checks. Between the two high schools in town there are 52 languages spoken.
Ray Kozub contacted Mike to advise him that Alice Ann Seggeling was in the area so Mike, Lesley, Alice Ann and her daughter, along with
Sol & Charlotte Rosenberg had a nice visit talking about the "Good Ol' Days"
![]() Don Satiro informed me that his grandson,
J.D. Webb recently won the World Wake Board Championship. J.D. was the youngest in the age group he was competing in. There were participants from throughout the world and J.D. came out on top. Congratulations !
Bill Zerfass was a little under the weather so remember him in your prayers.
On November 13th., Stan Schultz underwent surgery to have his right hip replaced. He asks you to bear with him as it will be awhile before he can get up the two flights of stairs to get to his computer.
Stan advises that for those of you who are not on A.O.L., you can go to WWW.AOL.COM and download the instant message program for free. The use whatever screen name you wish and set up a buddy list so whenever one of us is on line, you can communicate. Quoting Stan, "More contact among old friends is never a bad thing !"

Bob Jones is still working fourdays a week at L.T.D. along with Ed Barranco. Bob mentioned that he ran into Gene Gaiser recently in a restaurant. All is well with Gene. Bob is living in Vernon Hills and frequently sees Jack Rabey's son, who is a sergeant with the Vernon Hills P.D. He also sees Bob Heelan's son who is also on the Vernon Hills P.D.
Helen Albrecht sent thanks, that since the last newsletter she has received lots of mail from dirty old men, and that a few actually show promise. she also told me that she has the Wellington bus boy locked in her locker at home.
There will be three new additions to the address list. They will be Jim Hart, Fred Stewart and Rita Norum. Also check the list for new and revised e-mail addresses.
After 18 years on midnight shift, Jerry Axel is now the day shift desk officer.
Check the enclosed address sheets
There are some new addresses and
revisions of e-mail addresses. If there
are any errors please let me know.
I would like to use this last little space to wish all of you a very Happy and Joyous Holiday Season and wish you nothing but the best for the New Year!
